Okay, they actually asked me. I gave the textbook answer but, as the messenger I sometimes feel they have me in their sites. So, I thought I would pass the question on to the "True Professionals" at the YoungPRPros site.
Below is my note:
I teach a variety of PR courses at Oklahoma State University and the topic of Blogging came up during class yesterday. I was amazed at how few students had ever read a blog before (none had created one although everyone has facebook, myspace, etc.) so I took the opportunity to show them a few of my favorite PR related blogs - many of which are on this list. I found their response interesting and thought many of the bloggers on this list might like to provide a personal response to their questions which I will share during our next class. As a side, I gave the text book reasons to blog so what I am/they are looking for are truly personal reasons.
Feel free to hit me off list with your answers if you prefer.
Why do these people blog? (They are looking for your personal reasons, why you do it, how it benefits you, etc.)
Don't they have a life? (obviously if you are blogging every day you don't have any spare time;). Also, I wonder if they weren't applying the nerd factor i.e. wouldn't it be better to spend your blogging time at Eskimo Joes?
Does it really make a difference or are you all (bloggers) just yelling from a mountain top - with all the other bloggers?
As a side, I just modified their first assignment - each student will have to create a blog and update it throughout the semester.
Thanks in advance for your help.
